With rainy weather coming to our region this week, vegetation cleanup and habitat restoration enters a new season. Grassroots Ecology, a local non-profit with a lengthy history of hosting habitat restoration events, is hosting a number of events in coming weeks to help get our natural landscape in order.
Beginning Monday, November 25, the group is hosting habitat restoration events at Byrne Preserve in Los Altos Hills, focusing on ecosystem and wildlife habitat protection. The site features hilly terrain and activities will include removal of non-native species and planting of native ones.
These gatherings, which require advanced registration and signing of a waiver, run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the following Mondays: November 25, December 2, December 9, December 16, January 6, January 13, January 27, February 24.
Byrne Preserve, 27210 Altamont Rd. in Los Altos Hills has a dirt lot in front of the preserve for parking.

These events, running from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on the following Wednesdays, are good for those looking for a slower pace and a more detailed approach to restoration.
Parking is available in the main gravel parking lot at the Preserve, 1530 Arastradero Rd.
These gatherings, which require advanced registration and signing of a waiver, are set for the following Wednesdays: November 27, December 4, December 11, December 18.
