County COVID-19 testing in Cupertino Wednesday

A number of cities, including Cupertino, will see by-appointment COVID-19 in the community this week. It comes as Santa Clara County announced it has completed more than 274,000 COVID-19 tests since early March.

“If you have been tested for COVID-19 before, it may be time for another test. Many workers need to be tested once a month or even more, especially if you have frequent interaction with the public,” said Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, the county’s head of COVID-19 testing.

Santa Clara County has sign-up pages in Chinese and Vietnamese for appointments. Results can now be sent by text message. Some of the county-operated COVID-19 testing sites are now available for appointment sign-ups seven days in advance.

Testing at the County Fairgrounds site has capacity of 1,500 tests per day. According to local health officials, there are more than 50 COVID-19 testing sites in Santa Clara County.

The county is offering free flu vaccines at the County Fairgrounds and other sites as well. Officials have also pushed local healthcare providers to step up their COVID testing numbers, or face citations.

Testing is available both by appointment and at walk-up sites. All testing is free and does not require insurance, symptoms, or a doctor referral. Most sites are providing results between 1-2 days after testing.

Pop-Up Sites

Pop-up sites do not require an appointment but instead give out wristbands for hour-long time slots later in the day. Supplies remain limited so organizers recommend showing up early to get a wristband slot. To see what the testing experience is like at a pop-up site, see the county video here.
