Earthquake safety training session Monday in Campbell

Earthquakes are a fact of life in the Bay Area, as evidenced by the upcoming 20th-anniversary of the deadly Loma Prieta earthquake.

To ensure that families know how to prepare for, react to, and recover from an earthquake, Campbell officials are hosting a ‘Shake Out’ event to teach earthquake safety. The event is for all ages and will feature a discussion about the right steps to take to prepare, while debunking some of the myths.

Additionally, San Jose Sharks mascot Sharkie will be present, demonstrating safety procedures.

The event is free to attend, and interested residents should sign up here.

It is similar to events held in other cities, including one in Cupertino this weekend, to ensure West Valley families are prepared in case of disaster.

This workshop is set for Monday, October 7, at the Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Ave. It runs from 7 to 8 p.m.
