Sacred Heart Community Service (SHCS), headquartered at 1381 S. First St., announced an expansion last month into a second location at 550 S. First St. SHCS is nearly ready to unveil the new downtown San Jose building.

SHCS will host an open house on March 26 to celebrate the completion of the new building. The organization will host building tours, music, games, and more.

Masks will not be required for the outdoor event but those interested in participating in the building tour will need to wear a mask while indoors. To RSVP for the event, visit here.

SHCS has grown to work with nearly 50,000 community members annually. The addition of the second center will help to accommodate this influx. The new building at 550 S. First St. will allow space to implement private areas for community members and group spaces for committees, volunteers, partners, and staff, according to SHCS.

SHCS is still accepting donations towards the expansion project. These funds will go towards the expansion, and also to help the organization provide more choice and dignity in its food pantry and clothes closet and to aid in creating reserves so it can continue to respond in times of crises.
