The Santa Clara Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a male suspect connected to a hate crime vandalism incident that happened in the 3000 block of Lakeside Drive.
On March 14, an unknown male suspect vandalized the front door of a vacant building in Santa Clara by writing a racial epithet directed at the Chinese community, according to SCPD. While the building is currently vacant, the signage of the former tenant, a Chinese software company, was still visible.
Security camera footage showed the crime had occurred on Sunday, March 14?? at 1:35 am. The suspect is described by the Department as “possibly a white male, wearing a black beanie, black hooded sweatshirt, black face mask, blue jeans and black shoes.”
According to the SCPD, this is the second time this business has been targeted by the male suspect. On January 19, the suspect left an item inscribed with anti-Chinese epithets at the front door of the business. Though no crime was committed at that time, the SCPD has put a tremendous amount of effort into trying to identify and locate the person responsible, officials said.
The Santa Clara Police Department has released security camera images of the male suspect and the vehicle connected with the March 19 hate crime vandalism. If you have any information that may help solve this crime, contact Detective Sergeant Eric Lagergren at (408) 615-4823.
