Community rally on public safety Sunday in San Jose

San Jose saw the largest protests in the South Bay during the period following the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

Community groups have stayed active in calls for reform, not just in San Jose but across the West Valley. In Cupertino, two community forums have brought input from residents and a dialogue with law enforcement. A similar forum is set for next week in Los Altos.

PACT, People Acting in Community Together, is keeping the drumbeat going this weekend with an event in Downtown San Jose.

Titled ‘Reimagine Public Safety,’ the rally will feature community leaders calling for change. Social distancing and masks are required. Organizers ask those at higher risk of COVID-19 complications to stay home. A streaming option, on the PACT Facebook page, will serve those unable to attend.

The rally is set for Sunday, July 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. at San Jose City Hall, 200 E Santa Clara St. At one point, organizers listed San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo as a speaker. It is unclear as of publication time if Liccardo is still attending.
