Construction on the new community center in the City of Los Altos is just days from getting underway.
City officials are set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony at the future center site tomorrow, Tuesday, October 8, kicking off construction. The celebration event is both a milestone event and a chance for Los Altos residents to join fellow community members.
Construction fencing is already up around the site and parking in the area will be limited throughout the duration of construction.
The Los Altos City Council initially approved the new community center in April 2017. It will feature 24,500 square feet with several community, multi-purpose, and breakout rooms. It is designed to meet LEED Gold and has a final budget of more than $38 million.
Tuesday’s groundbreaking is at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the current Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., in Los Altos.
With limited parking in the area, attendees for the groundbreaking are encouraged to walk, bike, or take public transit to the event.
