The Arbor Day Foundation named Cupertino a 2017 Tree City USA for its commitment to “effective urban forest management.” Cupertino was also awarded a Tree City USA Growth Award.
To earn the designation of Tree City, Cupertino had to adhere to the Arbor Foundation’s four requirements: to establish a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
The Tree City USA program is a national movement that provides a framework for communities to manage and expand their public trees, according to the Arbor Day Foundation website.
