Teen Poetry Slam coming to Cupertino

Teens with a passion for poetry are invited to the Cupertino Library’s first Teen Poetry Slam on October 4 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Cupertino Community Hall, 10350 Torre Ave.

Participants in grades 7 to 12 can compete in a two-round event to win cash prizes by sharing two original poems onstage. There will be an open mic segment for those who wish to read but not compete. The event is made possible through support from Friends of the Cupertino Library and is free and open to the public.

Leading up to the event, the Cupertino Library is hosting two workshops on Sept. 13 and Sept. 27 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. to instruct teen slammers on the basics of poetry writing and delivery techniques. World-renowned poetry slam champion Mighty Mike McGee and Cupertino Poet Laureate Ann Muto will lead these sessions.

The workshops will be held in the Library’s Story Room at 10800 Torre Ave. Participants must register for the workshops in advance.
