Santa Clara County debuts new tools for reporting health orders

With continued community spread of novel coronavirus in Santa Clara County, officials are giving the public new tools to help enforce potential violations of last week’s shelter in place order.

The County District Attorney’s office has set up a phone number and email specifically for reporting non-essential businesses that continue to operate in violation of last Monday’s order from County Health Officer, Dr. Sara Cody.

While many essential businesses, including grocery stores, pharmacies, and restaurants offering take-out or delivery services are still legally operating, there have been numerous press reports about potential violations.

As of Saturday evening, the County had 263 positive COVID-19 cases. Eight county residents have died from the virus, with two further fatalities announced by County officials on Friday afternoon.

To report businesses in violation of shelter in place orders, email pubhealthreferral@dao.sccgov.org or leave a voicemail at (408) 792-2300.
