On a unanimous vote at its January 14, 2020 meeting, the Mountain View City Council appointed Kimbra McCarthy as the next City Manager.

McCarthy, who currently works as Assistant City Manager of Administrative Services in Redwood City, was selected after a thorough applicant search. She previously worked as Mountain View’s Deputy City Manager from 2014 to 2016.

“Having previously worked in the City of Mountain View in the role of Deputy City Manager, I am excited to return,” McCarthy said in a statement.

“I look forward to working in partnership with the Council in achieving their goals and vision for the City,” McCarthy continued. “I’m also looking forward to leading the team of exceptional City employees.”

Mountain View Mayor Lisa Matichak praised McCarthy’s experience, particularly with her past time working in Mountain View.

“McCarthy brings solid experience to this role and will hit the ground running as she is already familiar with the organization, many of the issues being addressed, and the City itself,” Matichak said.

As City Manager, McCarthy will manage daily functions of the City Administration. She serves at the will of the council. The negotiated compensation package, approved by the council includes 23 days of paid vacation and a starting salary of $307,000.

McCarthy is expected to start her work in Mountain View on March 2.
