Workshop to answer Social Security questions

Are you saving enough for retirement? Will Social Security cover your necessary expenses? And how exactly do you sign up – and when should you do so?

A local university is hoping to answer these questions, or others about the Social Security program, at a workshop this weekend.

De Anza College is hosting the event with information on the benefits of Social Security, how you can estimate the benefits – and what might change depending on when you start taking benefits, as well as what the COLA (cost of living allowance) is and how it plays into how much money you receive.

The session will also discuss the role of taxes in your retirement, and provide a better understanding of how ROTH and traditional IRAs can impact your post-work income.

The event is free to attend.

It is set for Saturday, August 17, beginning at 1 p.m. De Anza College’s Room Forum 3, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., in Cupertino will host the gathering.
