If golf balls end up in the water at this tournament, that’s fine. No matter what, the Cupertino Rotary Club’s upcoming 25th annual Golf Classic tournament at Deep Cliff Golf Course will be an educational experience.
On Tuesday, the Cupertino Rotary Club announced that the Marine Science Institute (MSI), a waterfront discovery center in Redwood City that provides educational programs and voyages in the Bay for students of all economic backgrounds, will be the primary beneficiary of the tournament, which takes place Saturday, May 5.
MSI will receive $25,000 from The Golf Classic, which raises funds to assist area-wide charities.
The funds will go toward MSI’s waterfront education upgrades.
“More specifically, the construction of shade structures over their outdoor theater, 2 sections of their activity lawn, and over their student drop-off/pick-up zones,” according to the tournament website. “They will also be adding 12 bench seats to their outdoor amphitheater, 15 animal transport containers and three transport wagons.”
MSI Executive Director Marilou Seiff called the donation an honor for MSI.
“The Rotary Club’s support of the Waterfront Education Center upgrades project is invaluable and will make a profound and positive impact on the learning experience at our center,” Seiff said in a statement.
