South Bay officials confirmed yesterday that an 11-year-old girl died late last week from injuries stemming from a suspected DUI crash at a Cupertino intersection on April 27.
The driver, 38-year-old Adam Wu from Cupertino, struck Kothari and three other children standing on the sidewalk near Foothill and Stevens Creek boulevards at around 6:15pm during a multi-vehicle crash that the Sheriff’s office called ‘a horrific scene that could have been prevented.’
Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Brooks Jarosz said the other three children, ages 8, 7 and 4, were treated for their injuries and released from area hospitals.
Wu was booked into county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics causing bodily injury. The sheriff’s office is awaiting toxicology reports before the District Attorney’s office reviews the case.
