Sacred Heart Community Service is spending their season of giving supporting families in need.
This holiday season, the organization continues its 58-year tradition of distributing holiday food boxes and gifts to local families. The organization hopes to distribute 7,200 food boxes that ensure families can enjoy a special holiday meal, as well as more than 18,600 toys, books and bicycles during its annual Holiday Program.
Those interested in supporting the organization for the holidays still have various opportunities to do so. Community groups and individuals can donate in a number of ways. A partial list of needed items includes:
- Frozen turkeys
- Frozen chickens
- Canned ham
- Pop-top canned foods
- Peanut butter
- Gift cards
- Sports equipment
- Teen shoes, sizes 6-9
- Local sports team-branded items
- Hair accessories and styling tools
- Lego playsets
- Action figures
- Children’s books
*Toys should not include weapons or promote violence
Gifts can be dropped off at the donation station located at the back of the Sacred Heart Community Service facility at 1381 S. First Street in San Jose until December 15 for food items and December 16 for all other items. Hours and other details can be found here. A full wish list can be found at sacredheartcs.org/holidays.
Other ways to participate in Sacred Heart’s holiday giving include volunteering, hosting toy & food drives, fundraising, and monetary donations. To sign up to volunteer, visit sacredheartcs.org/volunteer. To donate or become a fundraiser, visit sacredheartcs.org/donate. All amounts are welcome; a donation of $50 provides a family with a holiday food box including a turkey, $100 provides an organic raised bed garden for a family to grow their own food, and $1,000 provides gifts and books to as many as 50 children this holiday season.
Services and support from Sacred Heart Community Services are available to individuals and families in need regardless of their zip codes. To participate in future and ongoing programs, submit a Sacred Heart Membership Application, available here.
