The City of Cupertino is encouraging teens to apply to fill four vacancies on the Teen Commission by Friday, July 29.
The City Council will conduct interviews at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 9.
The Teen Commission advises the City Council and staff on projects important to youth. The Social Host Ordinance, teen’s mental health issues, and community service are examples of previous projects.
The Commission has participated in events like <hack> Cupertino, Pizza & Politics, and San Francisco’s YES Conference. Teen Commission meetings are hosted every second and fourth Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Commission is made up of nine members. Each commissioner will hold a two-year term. Cupertino aims to include at least one person from each public middle school and high school in the city on the commission, however membership is not limited to students from these schools.
Cupertino residents attending private schools, schools outside of city limits, or homeschooling are welcome to apply. Teen commissioners must be in 8th through 11th grade.
