County of Santa Clara to host redistricting community forum Oct. 2

The County of Santa Clara Advisory Redistricting Commission will be hosting a community forum this Saturday to share information about the County-wide redistricting process.

As the County enters its once-per-decade process to redraw supervisorial district maps following the Census update, residents are invited to share in the process to ensure new boundaries reflect the community as a whole and their respective communities of interest.

The community will be given the chance to learn more about how communities of interest are defined, and where and how to submit their own drawings of district maps.

The forum will be held October 2nd at 2 p.m. via Zoom at https://sccgov-org.zoom.us/j/92815965499 or phone, at (669) 900-6833, ID 92815965499. Meetings will be available in applicable languages if requested in advance.

Those unavailable to join will have the opportunity to submit a community of interest (COI) form and submit a district map drawing at www.sccgov.org/2021redistricting/COI .

The redistricting process extends over a six month period. In line with Assembly Bill 849(B), this period will consist of hearing and analyzing public feedback.

The final recommendation from the 15 person Advisory Redistricting Commission, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, will take into account contiguous geography amongst districts, geographic integrity of neighborhoods and communities of interest, minimization of public division, and natural or artificial barriers. Redistricting will not be drawn to discriminate against any political party, and encourage geographic compactness.
