The meeting will take place virtually on Tuesday, June 15 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. PT
The second of three community meetings surrounding the Housing Element development plans for the City of Saratoga will take place tomorrow, June 15th through the Zoom link found here. This meeting series is designed to allow community members to voice their opinion about how Saratoga will meet its required housing units allocation for the next planning cycle, from 2023 to 2031.
While the updated Housing Element is not due until January 2023, early community involvement is central to the city’s plans. In addition to hosting these meetings, a survey is available as a forum for feedback. The survey can be found here and is available until June 18th.
All three meetings have the same agenda and are designed to accommodate as many community members’ schedules as possible. The third meeting on June 26 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am for those unable to attend the first two meetings.
As part of the Regional Housing Needs Association “RHNA”, California cities are required to update their General Plan Housing Element to plan for projected housing needs every eight years, and must incorporate new housing for all income levels. The city of Saratoga is estimated to be required to add 1,700 new housing units to be built between 2023 and 2031, and these community meetings are a critical part of Saratoga’s plan to update their next Housing Element.
The Housing Element is one of the seven General Plan requirements that each City in California is required to meet. It incorporates several steps, including but not limited to the completion of a Housing Needs Assessment to provide demographic statistics and corresponding housing needs, the implementation of policies that are designed to address such housing needs and community outreach measures.
