Santa Clara County has opened eligibility for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to all individuals ages 12 and older who live, work and attend school in the county, regardless of immigration status. Previously, the Pfizer vaccine was eligible for individuals ages 16 and over.
The expanded eligibility comes after the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) on Wednesday recommended the vaccine for immediate use in the younger age group. Pfizer is the only vaccine approved for use by those who are ages 12-17.

Nearly 74 percent of Santa Clara County residents 16 and over have received at least one dose of COVID-19, and 54.1 percent have completed vaccination, according to Santa Clara County’s dashboard as of Thursday. The percentages are higher, in reality, as vaccination administrations have been underreported due to issues with the California Immunization Registry data system, according to County public health officials.
