Communities are getting creative with Halloween planning this year, as COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the region.
Palo Alto is getting set for a celebration of its own, calling for jack-o’-lantern submissions. Residents will register for a display location on California or University Aves. A panel of judges will vote in the scariest, most-creative, and cutest categories.
Participants are responsible for providing the carved pumpkin, but the city will have LED candles to help brighten the displays.
The jack-o’-lanterns display from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30. Community residents can come by during those hours to see the fun displays, with no gatherings allowed. City staff will be on site to facilitate movement.
City officials will notify the winners in each category via email, displaying the winning pumpkins on social media. Category winners earn $50 gift cards to a local Palo Alto restaurant.
