County-run appointment-based COVID-19 testing is returning to several West Valley cities this week.
It comes just a week after Santa Clara County added sign-up pages in Chinese and Vietnamese for the appointments. That is in addition to speedy results sent by text message. Some of the county-operated COVID-19 testing sites are now available for appointment sign-ups seven days in advance.
The County has also moved its East San Jose pop-up site to a new location, where infection rates remain higher.
“We look forward to our move into a new neighborhood in East San Jose, which remains one of the areas hardest hit by COVID-19,” said Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, the county’s chief COVID testing officer.
Testing at the County Fairgrounds site has capacity of 1,500 tests per day. According to local health officials, there are more than 50 COVID-19 testing sites in Santa Clara County.
The county is offering free flu vaccines at the County Fairgrounds and other sites as well. Officials have also pushed local healthcare providers to step up their COVID testing numbers, or face citations.
Testing is available both by appointment and at walk-up sites. All testing is free and does not require insurance, symptoms, or a doctor referral. Most sites are providing results between 1-2 days after testing.
Pop-Up Sites
Pop-up sites do not require an appointment but instead give out wristbands for hour-long time slots later in the day. Supplies remain limited so organizers recommend showing up early to get a wristband slot. To see what the testing experience is like at a pop-up site, see the county video here.
