Santa Clara establishing new diversity task force

Four members of the Santa Clara community will be the initial members of the city’s new task force.

Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor and Police Chief Pat Nikolai will present information on their “Commit to Action” effort Tuesday. It comes as part of their pledged work this summer during the country’s increased awareness and action around racial disparities.

The new ‘Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’ members have council support for community engagement. The focus is around social equity and “access to an equal quality of life and equal access to opportunity.”

“I am committed to leading the City of Santa Clara towards working to support diversity, equity, and inclusion within our City and community,” Mayor Gillmor said in advance of Tuesday evening’s council meeting.

The four initial appointees are as follows:

  • Darius Brown,
  • Neil Datar,
  • Andrew Knaack, and
  • Dianna Zamora-Morroquin

Eventually the task force may have up to seven members. In addition to community engagement, the group will review police use of force policies. The task force will provide periodic reports to the city council.
