Palo Alto event to examine history of racial segregation in America

An event Thursday will focus in on the shameful history of racial segregation in America. Part of the ‘Palo Alto Reads’ series, author Richard Rothstein will discuss his book “The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America.”

The discussion kicks off Palo Alto’s series, a joint effort of the city’s library and it Race & Equity Initiative.

According to the city, the series “encourages the reading and discussion of a selected book to foster community conversation about themes and topics relevant to our city.”

It comes amid large protests following the shooting of a Jacob Blake, a black American, by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Rothstein will join the virtual conversation, set for Thursday, August 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
