The COVID-19 pandemic has brought down another major local event.
City of Santa Clara officials announced Tuesday that they have canceled the annual Art and Wine Festival.
“Given the unprecedented challenges, the City will not be able to host the 40th Anniversary Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival in 2020,” the city’s statement read.
It comes as the most recent health order guidelines raised the number of people allowed at outdoor gatherings to 60. That number was still well short of the thousands that regularly attend the festival.
Santa Clara Parks and Recreation staff had been in contact with volunteers and artists to discuss alternatives. The ongoing COVID-19 spread in the community made that impossible.
The 2019 iteration featured more than 30 musical and dance acts across three stages. That was in addition to the more than 160 artists and dozens of wine and beer vendors.
