Cupertino student art contest in last week of submissions

Three Cupertino students were announced winners of the SCCOE Young Artists Showcase.

An art competition for young students in Cupertino is wrapping up its submission period this week.

Open to Kindergarteners to 8th-graders at Cupertino Union Schools, the competition is part of the Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister Cities program which collects art to send to Cupertino’s sister city in Japan.

According to organizers, the art is displayed at Toyokawa’s community center just as the art sent from Toyokawa is displayed in Cupertino’s Japanese Pavilion during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival each spring.

Submissions for the contest must be 2-dimensional of any medium. The deadline for submissions is this Friday, January 10, and each student can submit up to 3 pieces. Importantly, art will not be returned after the competition ends.

Sharon Fong, a teacher at Lincoln Elementary, 21710 McClellan Rd. is collecting submissions, which should include name, school, and grade level of the student.
