The SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is welcoming in members of the public this weekend at a community day.
SLAC, which focuses on experimental and theoretical research in elementary particle physics, according to its website, will have a range of interactive exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops. The activities are meant to inspire young people – and all attendees – to get interested in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEaM).
Attendees will also be privy to short talks about SLAC and other science topics, and see short films in a 3D visualization lab. A wide range of mind-boggling scientific demonstrations, a full list of which is here, will showcase the research and expertise of the SLAC team.
The free event, which is currently sold out, will also feature food and drinks as well as prize giving opportunities.
SLAC’s community day is Saturday, October 19, from 5 to 9 p.m. If you already have a ticket, organizers ask that you enter through the main gate at 2575 Sand Hill Rd.
