The City of Cupertino has announced a lottery for a dozen new units at a senior citizen apartment complex.

Residents can apply to live in The Veranda, an affordable apartment complex by Charities Housing on Jan. 22-23. The units are reserved just for extremely-low and very-low income senior citizens age 62 and older.

Interested residents can get an application at Parkside Studios, 495 N. Wolfe Road in Sunnyvale, only on Jan. 22-23. Applications can also be downloaded here on those same days only.

Completed applications will be accepted at Parkside Studios on Jan. 24-25 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Additional mailing information is in the application placket.

Rent at The Veranda will range from $656 to $1,121 per month, according to the City of Cupertino. The City estimates residents will be able to move into the units some time in April or May.

The City contributed $3.672 million in funds and another $1 million through the Housing Trust Silicon Valley toward the project. These funds accounted for approximately 43 percent of the developer’s development costs, according to the City.
