The Cupertino community will be part of a nationwide wreath-laying celebration on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos. Wreaths Across America is an annual ceremony designated to remember and honor fallen U.S. veterans.
Every year, a national ceremony takes place at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,400 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad, according to the Wreaths Across America website.
The American Legion Stevens Creek Post 642 is putting on this year’s local event. It begins at 10 a.m.
At the event, people are encouraged to place a wreath on a veteran’s grave, say their names and take a moment to thank them for their service.
The Cupertino Rotary Club has donated $1,500 toward the wreaths. Rotarians also plan to lay the wreaths at designated sites in the cemetery, according to the club.
Residents who would like to purchase a wreath can send $15 to American Legion Post 642 P.O. Box 302 Cupertino, CA 95015.
