Grab your capes and masks, Cupertino! The November 3 Heroes Run is approaching fast and registration is still open.
The annual trot with a superhero theme is in its sixth year. The whole family and serious runners can opt for a 5k Run/Walk, a Kids Fun Run and Hero Dash obstacle course. The fun run is for youngsters ages 2-7 and the obstacle course is open to all.
The event encourages families with kids of all ages to register, dress up and participate to benefit children’s health services at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. The annual obstacle-run is an initiative of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Clara County Fire Department, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, and the Valley Medical Center Foundation.
Superhero costumes are encouraged but not required to participate.
In addition to the race events, The Heroes Run includes a community fair, and lots of kid friendly attractions.
The races begin at the Cupertino Civic Center, 10300 Torre Ave. The obstacle course registration starts at 8 a.m. and people can try their hand at it until noon. The 5k Walk/Run starts at 9 a.m. and the Kids Fun Run will begin at noon.
The cost for the 5k is $35 and the fun run is $15. The Hero Dash obstacle course is $5, payable by cash only, according to the event website.
Since its inception, The Heroes Run has raised more than $100,000 to support health services at SCVMC. Those funds have been used for things like new medical equipment and outfitting each pediatric hospital room with a new TV, according to organizers.
