The availability of affordable housing in Silicon Valley has become so scarce, regional leaders have developed a week-long event to highlight the issue, called Affordable Housing Week.

Affordable Housing Week starts today, May 11, and runs through May 18. It features multiple events daily related to important topics such as creating affordable housing in Silicon Valley — including in wildly expensive Cupertino.

On Monday, May 14 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the League of Women Voters of Cupertino-Sunnyvale will host a meeting on the Vallco Mall property– where developer Sand Hill Properties has proposed creating in a mixed-use development with about 2,400 housing units – half of which would be set aside as affordable housing.

The community forum will feature presentations on both Sand Hill’s “Vallco Town Center” plan as well as a separate project proposal being developed as part of a city-led community process. Click here for more information on how to participate.

The Vallco meeting is the only Cupertino-based event for Affordable Housing Week. There are five events in Sunnyvale, more than a dozen in San Jose, and also events in Gilroy, Mountain View, Milpitas, and Santa Clara.
