Monta Vista High School took part in National Girls and Women Sports Day on Tuesday Feb. 6 as they dedicated the girls Varsity basketball game to celebrate the work of the female sports teams on campus.
National Girls & Women Sports Day (NGWSD) is a national observance that celebrates the extraordinary achievements of women and girls in sports, according to the NGWSD website.
Monta Vista High encouraged all of the athletic programs to attend the game, as well as students from Kennedy Middle School, and others in an attempt to “fill the stands.” The Tuesday night game against Fremont High School offered free admission to all women and was linked to the “TimesUp” movement, a unified call for change and equality for women everywhere.
“#TimesUp” t-shirts were distributed to all female athletes who attended the game, according to the Monta Vista High School Athletic Boosters website.
