Monta Vista High student recognized for years of dedication to plant more trees

Monta Vista High School student Karen Ma is all about planting trees in the community — and her efforts have been recognized by the City of Cupertino.

The City of Cupertino honored Monta Vista High School student Karen Ma for her efforts to plant more trees in the community.

Ma has spent her time volunteering with the City, encouraging community members to plant more trees, and created the website balanceourcarbon.com in an attempt to work with the City to replant 1,600 trees over the next four years.

Ma and her team of volunteers, the Silicon Valley Tree Planters, have created an annual meetup where all are welcome to spend time outdoors and plant trees provided by the City.

Ma and her team called the Silicon Valley Tree Planters at last April’s tree planting event.
