Cupertino native receives prestigious mathematics award

Monta Vista High alum Sameera Vemulpalli has been named runner-up for the 2018 Alice T. Schafer Prize for Excellence in Mathematics.

According to UC Berkeley, the Schafer Prize is awarded annually by the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) to the most outstanding woman mathematics undergraduate in the United States.

Vemulpalli graduated from Monta Vista in 2014 and is currently finishing her senior year at UC Berkeley. She is majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Both UC Berkeley’s Mathematics department and the Fremont Union High School District honored Vemulpalli in recent Facebook posts.
